# Will I need to hold a GCN or a GSN to participate in the Galactica Governance?

If you want to be elected:

* You need a Full Node (GCN) for high positions in the governance
* For smaller positions, only a shard (GSN) may be required

In some instances, holding key roles in the ecosystem will be equivalent to holding a full node (example: being a sentinel, faction leader of the cypher university, validator since testnet, cypher state tier).

The main principle is that only people who proved they have real interest in the protocol and the cypher state should be eligible to be elected.

If you want to vote in the governance:

* You just need GNET tokens
