πŸ™οΈGalactica Network Citizenship (GNC)

Galactica Network Citizenship represents a user's merit-based entitlement to the network's generated value. It outlines the rights and responsibilities for these users through an explicitly defined political process.

Protocol Citizenship emerges from institutions that determine power and wealth distribution within a protocol. Sybil-resistant protocols such as Galactica Network can represent complex societal concepts on-chain, such as citizenship, which historically encapsulates a person's rights and responsibilities to and within a nation state. This is why, one of the definitions of a Cypher State is a protocol capable of instilling meaning into Protocol Citizenship.

Galactica Network Citizenship is represented by a cryptographic certificate which grants its owner rights and responsibilities within the Galactica Network. The rights include:

  1. Universal Basic Income (UBI) that consists of $GNET, IP royalties (Royalties for Intellectual Property generated within the ecosystem) and proceeds from investing into projects through Academy of Science and other mechanisms;

  2. Validator status (Citizens who become validators will get $GNET rewards for validating the blocks);

  3. Access to certain dApps (e.g Citizens might get access to specific DeFi protocols which are not accessible to non-Citizens);

  4. Access to the political institutions shaping the wider Galactica Network ecosystem, i.e. only Citizens can vote and get promoted into positions of power (i.e. Parliament or Council of Interest Groups).

Citizenship within Galactica Network offers various economic advantages in the form of UBI, and the responsibility to engage in the meritocratic governance of the protocol. This includes creating proposals for system improvement, participating in system-wide votes on certain critical protocol changes and perhaps most importantly, selecting the representatives into the Parliament, Academy of Science and other protocol institutions . Citizens have the right to be involved in the governance process by:

  1. Voting

  2. Taking part in the proposal generation process in the High Council

  3. Taking part in Parliamentary activities

  4. Forming Common Interest Groups & Special Interest Groups.

  5. Demonstrating merit through contribution can lead to an Academy of Sciences chair and involvement in the Galactica’s Funding process

To be eligible for citizenship, one must obtain, among other things, a zkCertificate by passing Galactica's zkKYC process. More information about GNC can be found here.
